Without forgetting the industrial past that provided Barreiro with a strong economic and social development, the Municipality nowadays affirms itself as a pole of attraction for services and populations due to its privileged location, on the south bank of the Tejo estuary.

The Municipality of Barreiro has developed a cultural policy centered in three main areas: Performing Arts, Visual Arts and Heritage. And it has promoted the participatory cultural management of citizens and cultural agents, fostering the diversity of content, supporting the work of local cultural agents and bringing to the territory the best national and international works.
