TERRITORY AND COMMUNITY

ALCOBAÇA has a great territorial and landscape diversity, marked by the Serra de Candeeiros, by the fertile lands of the alluvial plain of the river Alcoa and by the coastal boarder.

With a prominent historical and cultural heritage, expressed in a significant set of heritage elements representative of the legacy of the Cistercian Order, this legacy has its greatest expression in the Monastery of Santa Maria de Alcobaça, classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, but also in other relevant elements such as the Monastery of Cós, the farms/estates of the coutos de Alcobaça and the mills and all elements of the Cistercian hydraulic system.
