Artemrede

ARTEMREDE

MISSION

Artemrede is a project of cultural cooperation operating uninterruptedly for the last 13 years. It currently gathers 15 Portuguese municipalities, promoting the interaction between cities of different scales. Artemrede focuses on the specificities of the territories through its support to artistic creation, cultural programming in network, qualification, training and design of strategies for cultural mediation.

HISTORY

In 2003, the Coordination and Regional Development Commission from the region of Lisbon and Tagus Valley, launched a survey aiming to identify accurate means to qualify the cultural venues which had been rehabilitated at the dawn of the 21st century. Among the recommendations of that survey was the creation of a network which was meant to connect the different venues and to fulfil their necessities in terms of qualification, technical assistance and development.

Artemrede was established on the 5th of January 2005 as a non-profit cultural organisation. Programming and training became its two major areas of intervention. Since then, Artemrede contributes to a regular cultural offer to its members, coproduces performances, organises specialized trainings, develops community projects and other initiatives which involve different cultural agents and audiences.

At the end of 2008, Artemrede elaborated its first Strategic Plan, which lasted until 2015. In 2014, willing to develop new action lines and to explore other fields of social intervention, Artemrede kicked off a new process of strategic reflection. The outcome of it was the Strategic and Operational Plan (SOP) 2015-2020, which was unveiled in February 2015 during an international conference named Cultural Policies for Development, organised in the framework of Artemrede’s 10th anniversary.

In 2016, Artemrede organised its first Political Forum. Simultaneously, it also began its process of internationalisation by receiving funding from the Creative Europe programme to implement the project A MANUAL ON WORK AND HAPPINESS.

Artemrede currently gathers 15 municipalities. Among the priorities of the SOP 2015-2020 are Artemrede’s local enlargement and the participation in transnational projects in order to improve its international profile.
