Afonso Henriques na cidade em 15 de mar\u00e7o de 1147, at\u00e9 \u00e0 partida, em dire\u00e7\u00e3o a Lisboa, dos tanques comandados pelo Capit\u00e3o Salgueiro Maia, na madrugada de 25 de abril de 1974, que em poucas horas conquistaram um pa\u00eds livre e democr\u00e1tico.<\/p>\n<p>Os primeiros vest\u00edgios documentados da ocupa\u00e7\u00e3o humana em Santar\u00e9m remontam a 900 A.C.
